It’s the start of a new year, and we always hear the phrase “new year, new me”. But this year is different from the rest. We’re (hopefully) coming out of a year-long lockdown and many of us are looking forward to the ability to go and socialize with our friends soon as vaccination programs take effect.
One good way to get yourself back into the swing is a new wardrobe—after all, we’ve probably saved some money by not going out for drinks anymore.
And an easy yet good way to refresh an old wardrobe is through outerwear—and there are many different kinds of women’s jackets that bring you back into the social spotlight.
The color trends for this year bring us a lot of warm yellows, such as amber glow, sandstone, and peach, to dazzling vibrant oranges, reds, and blues. Pantone announces that they feel this year's colors will be all about optimism and stripping back to basics.
Moto Jackets
A good moto jacket is the perfect addition to any wardrobe. With smooth material and cuts that add a lot of texture, they are available in a broad variety of colors and can be found in leather and faux leather options. Perfect for staying warm and cozy, they also add an edgy twist to any outfit. These pair well with more dramatic nighttime looks and punk vibes, or just for your day to day wear when running errands.
Faux Fur Coats
A faux fur coat can bring a sense of timeless class or elegance. They have made a slight comeback this year to provide warmth and stylish touch. With a broad variety of colors and textures to choose from, pairing up faux fur with a simple dress and modest hair and makeup can evoke the classic movie star aesthetic.
The only downside is that you can’t quite wear a fur coat for every occasion. You can and no one will stop you, but you might wind up getting some strange looks as you strut through the grocery store with your bread and eggs, looking like you just came out of a fashion shoot.
Tuxedo Blazers
A tuxedo blazer is one of the most versatile jackets someone can have in their wardrobe. Paired with the right garments, hair, and makeup, you can adapt these jackets to fit your needs from business chic to catching the attention of the object of your desire. Or you can dress it down and just pair it with a t-shirt, comfortable jeans, and boots for a look that screams cool without trying.
Shell Jackets
A shell jacket is another one of those pieces that everyone should have in their wardrobe.
Perfect for outdoor events, cold venues, or general wear during a wintry day. Able to keep you warm, while supplying you with a modern and stylish look. As they are generally thick and puffy, these can pair well with leggings or well-fitting jeans, a sporty low maintenance hairstyle like a ponytail, and running shoes to leave you with an athletic look.
Side note, with the same style, you can pull off the athletic look no matter what quarantine tried to do to your figure.
Vests
Vests have been underappreciated for a long time, but that’s changing. With the ability to completely change an old outfit into something new, it can subdue a patterned top or make a plain blouse pop. Available in thin fabric or robust and puffy, a vest can be a dynamic modifier to any outfit while providing comfort and warmth. Pair it with a billowy blouse for a cute sixties look, or keep it all trim for more modern vibes.
