Modern workplaces are becoming more liberal with the dress code. You’re less likely to be required to wear a stuffy twin set or corporate power suit unless you’re working in law or finance. But for the rest of us, finding your workplace style is becoming more of a necessity.
Looking stunning at work means finding that happy medium between your chillaxing get up and business casual. Sloppy just doesn’t cut it when you’re having skype conferences with outside teams or maybe even going for client lunches!
These are our suggestions for the 7 things to consider wearing in your workplace if you’re looking to add a bit of pizzazz to your style.
Bold patterned hippy dress
Think loose fitting kaftan style dresses that wouldn’t look out of place in Goa. Wear them above the knee if you’re feeling bold, or go for a maxi dress if your workplace is a bit more conservative. Colorful patterns, paired with a slim leather belt, or loose tie cord to pull the outfit together (figuratively and literally). The boho chic look has been seen gracing the catwalks in 2019, so embrace the glam hippy vibe.
Colorful blazer
If your workplace still prefers a bit of business casual, stick with the blazer but make it funky. Suit jackets in pastel pinks, racy red and ice blues all look cool but with that daring edge. Who says business wear has to be boring?
50s Fashion
We might be well past the era of Mad Men (thank God!) and women are now more than just a bit of office eye candy. But the style still holds true today. Embrace the days gone by with a vintage styled tea dress - also known as a swing dress; and for a really authentic throwback vibe go for polka dot or floral. Think Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly or those pics of your grandma!
Square toed heels
It might be the 50s thing, but this year seems to be all about heeled shoes with square toes. Court shoes, leather ankle boots, slip ons, pumps, mules… Whatever look you go for, it’s all about that squared toe!
Eco brands
In 2019, it doesn’t really matter what you wear so long as the brand has some kind of sustainable credentials. Throwaway fashion is so 2008, so this year look at brands that are zero waste or use recycled materials in their production.
Stella McCartney is one of the most high profile fashion houses to aim for sustainability in all aspects of business, but also brands like Patagonia, Toms and Hennes all have sound eco credentials. So whatever you’re wearing, make sure its green.
Comfort shoes
Shoes can be stylish and comfortable – it’s not necessary to suffer through the pain of heels in the workplace. And while we’re talking about eco-fashion, wool shoes are one of the latest and growing fashion trends in comfort shoes. You’ll find a variety of wool shoes in different styles from cool sneakers to hard wearing boots. Oh, and you don’t need to wear socks with them!
Vintage sweaters
Raid the vintage store for the craziest sweater you can find. Think out there 90s patterns, kitsch Hard Rock Cafe souvenir hoodies from ten years ago, or random sports club attire from the 80s. The only rule is, if it gives you a headache to look at it or it has an obscure or random motif… Go for it!
So there you have it. If you want to add some style to your workplace then these cool fashion tips should offer something for everyone. From keeping it smart casual business chic to more edgy startup diversity, take your style to the workplace.
