There are arguments for any Mission: Impossible movie being the finest, but I choose 2011's Ghost Protocol. Director Brad Bird, famed for his work with Pixar, contributes inventiveness to the action sequences by working in animation. Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt mounting the Burj Khalifa in Dubai looks stunning even on a small screen.

3. ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)

Noah Baumbach's Marriage Story is an excruciatingly honest look at divorce. Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson are snobbish New York theatrical director Charlie and actress Nicole Barber, who love one other more than they despise each other.
As Nicole's vicious lawyer (Laura Dern at her best) explains, the legal process brings out everyone's worst qualities. Marriage Story is a Kramer vs. Kramer with equal empathy for both sides. A. Menta.
5. ‘The Departed’ (2006)

People say The Departed is a lesser Scorsese film, even begrudging the triumph of the Best Picture and Director winner. Incorrect! As deep and satisfying as Scorsese's finest films about tortured men and organized crime.
The narrative of two Boston-born muscular guys living as double spies — one for the mob, one for the cops – is one of Scorsese's most compelling investigations of absent dads and flailing kids.
6. 'The Power of the Dog' (2021)
DIRECTOR: Jane Campion
CAST: Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons
RATING: R
Jane Campion's western is a masterpiece despite not winning Best Picture. Benedict Cumberbatch and Jesse Plemons play ranch-owning brothers in 1925. George marries a widowed innkeeper (Kirsten Dunst) and joins in with her son (Kodi Smit-McPhee). Superb acting and a memorable soundtrack highlight a tense family drama. This peaceful morality tale becomes a dark thriller in the final 15 minutes. It's important.
7. 'Roma' (2018)
DIRECTOR: Alfonso Cuarón
CAST: Yalitza Aparicio, Marina de Tavira
RATING: R
Mexico City, 1970. Cleo Gutiérrez (Aparicio) is one of two indigenous live-in maids for a wealthy household, speaking Mixtec with Adela but Spanish with the family. Cleo's lover leaves her when she becomes pregnant, and the family has its problems. Over a year, Cleo and her family experience many changes, but one thing stays the same: life continues. Roma is a gorgeous, award-winning depiction of one woman's year and a career highlight for Cuaron and his ensemble.
8. ‘Something’s Gotta Give (2003)
DIRECTOR: Nancy Meyers
STARS: Diane Keaton, Jack Nicholson, Keanu Reeves
RATING: PG-13
Focusing on the interior design of a Nancy Meyers movie is missing the point. It's lovely, but it has nothing on her handling of older women's inner lives. A character like Diane Keaton's Erica Barry is sometimes confined to a supporting part or a cursory appearance in lesser movies, but she gets the full limelight here.
She shares it with an amusing Jack Nicholson as a permanent lothario, but Keaton (an avatar for Meyers) gets to shine.
9.'To All The Boys I've Loved Before (2018)
DIRECTOR: Susan Johnson
CAST: Lana Condor, Noah Centineo, John Corbett
RATING: TV-14
Netflix's delightful adaptation of the famous YA novel has all the highs and valleys of youthful love that make romcoms terrific. The hilarious adolescent comedy stars Lana Condor and Noah Centineo and follows a teen girl as she sends her admirers love letters they were never meant to see. Sweet, hilarious, and full of chemistry between its two stars, To All The Boys I've Loved Before is a superb adaptation that stands on its own.
10. '13th' (2016)
DIRECTOR: Ava DuVernay
CAST: Angela Davis, Van Jones, Cory Booker
RATING: TV-MA
From Ava DuVernay arrives this fantastic and critical documentary. It is a deep dive into the past of racial inequalities in the United States and how it has played a vast and lasting role in the jail system. This Academy Award-nominated film tells the story of the disproportionately large detainment and generational trauma of Black individuals throughout the United States in a way that is both unforgettable and moving. It uses archival footage and interviews with influential activists, scholars, politicians, and formerly incarcerated people.
