Both designers and architects make mistakes in their work. And upset customers have to correct the mistakes or literally live with them. So the conversation in this article is not about great interior solutions but about what common mistakes people make in the interior design of an apartment or house, and how to avoid them.
1. The project is done, but the design "lacks zest"
This is the most widespread error of many interior projects: the design is made right out of the box: beautiful, brand new, but something is clearly missing. Even with a variety of high-level professionals, there are a lot of such interiors now. Such a mistake happens because the customer wants to "hang some new curtains or somehow revive the interior."
It is easy to understand well such authors of unremarkable interiors. Most likely, the customer was curating the project like a hawk, and the designers at some point preferred to give up and not argue. As a result, the interior design (for obvious reasons) did not suit the client. Yes, customers often dictate their wishes, and they cannot be ignored, but surely a compromise can be found in everything.
Any interior with a certain approach can become memorable and original, even if it is conservative inside and out. In order not to make this mistake in interior design, it is recommended filling the space with memorable details. Let some "chips" form its unique personality. For example, original door handles can be added to an extremely canonical interior. That's really a trifle, but it could change everything.
2. Nice, but not very functional
More than once you may come across examples of stunningly beautiful interiors, where all the components are matched aesthetically perfectly: correctly chosen textiles, harmonious finishing of walls and floors, the right furniture. In other words, the design of the apartment is just a magazine picture. But, looking more closely, you will start noticing mistakes in the interior design concerning everyday physical comfort.
Let's say there are not enough outlets in the kitchen or they are located in not the most convenient places. Or, at the request of the client, a natural parquet board was laid on the floor and the designer did not take into account (or could not find the words to convince the owner) that it is much more practical to choose the latest generation laminate with a certain class of wear resistance for a house with a dog.
Indeed, after a year of use, it will look much more decent than a delicate board, on which sometimes even scratches from the vacuum cleaner remain. Now imagine the array of emotions of a client who, due to such a mistake in interior design, will have to make repairs and change the floor covering in a year. These are just examples of interior design mistakes, but the point is: convenience cannot be neglected. This is especially important to remember for those who make repairs on their own, without the participation of a designer.
3. Practical, but no visual balance
Designing small apartments and trying to avoid crowding, many feel the desire to stuff the interior with the most miniature and functional furniture, transforming, folding and unfolding. A common mistake in the design of such an apartment would be ordering window frames with a practical opening-closing mechanism for the clients' living room.
However, later it may turn out that the wood tone of the window frames in the catalog looked warmer and as a result did not harmonize with the platbands, baseboards and doorways. As a result, maximum comfort was provided, but the picture did not work out.
It is always worthwhile to look especially carefully at the whole picture and keep it in your head when developing any interior design. Take into account not only dimensions but also proportions, create collages and mood boards for yourself, balancing between the colors and the objects used.
4. Lack of storage space
This design mistake can also be categorized as a beautiful picture and a lack of convenience. But this aspect is so important that it should be highlighted because quite often this error occurs in modern design projects, in particular, typical small apartments.
The design error is explained by the fact that after all the essential objects have already found their place in the interior, there is simply no space for storage systems for outerwear, bed linen and other household items. An example of such a design mistake: the owners are happy with everything, except for an unpleasant nuance - the ordered model of the bed does not have drawers for linen, and the entire wardrobe is occupied with clothes. The solution, in this case, would be to look on the Internet for a suitable drawer with pull-out compartments, which would fit under the bed in a separate block.
To avoid such a mistake in an apartment, storage systems need to be thought out almost more carefully than furniture design. If you are planning to have an impressive home library in your new apartment, look for shelves or high-quality cabinets you can go to nfoutlet. If there is no desire to buy an additional wardrobe for seasonal clothes, you can allocate space on the loggia by making lockers with doors. It is important that it is required to eliminate such an interior error in advance: before the final project is drawn up, and the builders will begin to implement it.
5. Wrong perception of style
Quite a lot of interior mistakes arise from the interpretation of classic styles by designers - there is a great risk of slipping into vulgarity. We all know that the classics require space and large footage, the correct proportions of the interior. But in addition, it requires a sense of proportion from the customer: to avoid such interior mistakes as an abundance of redwood or "golden Versailles," so that the elements add up to a delicate picture, and do not evoke associations with an apartment of an elderly couple or a catalog of a furniture factory in the middle price segment.
There is probably no cure for this "ailment." Is that aesthetic taste, experience, self-study, learning from interior mistakes, a critical attitude towards oneself? All of these combined, so the best solution would be trusting a professional (right after you find a good one!).
6. A designer taking on any projects
The task of many (and especially novice) designers is to quickly build up a portfolio. This desire leads to the fact that the client is offered a very tempting package of services at a super attractive price. It seems to the customer that they are facing an experienced and versatile designer who does not make professional mistakes. But, taking on everything at once, the designer risks not only making interior mistakes but also not developing specific skills. And the client leaves disappointed and considers absolutely all interior designers to be clumsy.
Someone works great with classics and mature clients, understands their psychology and can offer great solutions. Some, on the contrary, get along well with young dynamic customers and find themselves in low-budget projects of a small area. Specialization is one of the keys to the success of a designer and a bureau, so be very careful and attentive to detail when you choose a person who will be responsible for your safe harbor - your home.
