The 3 Keys To Starting Your Own Fantasy Sports League

If you are a die-hard sports fan and are looking for a hobby to tie into it then starting a fantasy sports league is a great idea. If you are an athlete that is recovering from an injury then having a league of your own is a good way to pass the time required to heal. You can often get the same thrill of winning from fantasy as you used to get from playing a sport.

If you are detail-oriented and very organized then being the commissioner of your own league is a no-brainer. It doesn’t matter which sport you prefer as there is a fantasy version of it that you can enjoy. In this article, we will give you the basics to get you started so you can start your very own fantasy sports league this season.

1 - Settle on the right format

There are a couple of main ways to go with regard to fantasy sports. You can start a traditional league in which you draft before the actual season starts and the league finishes on the last day of the regular season. This is a commitment because it requires people to set their rosters every week and pay attention through a long season.

There are also daily leagues in which the draft happens, the roster is set, and the season is over by the time the last game is played that day. It is better for people that aren’t sure if they will enjoy fantasy sports and can move on if they don’t like it.

Make sure to pick the right format that is going to work best for you. You’ll also be setting up your own team so make sure to use tools like Stokastic daily fantasy to draft.

2 - Figure out the points

Every league has its own way to score points. Each player will get points for completing a play and that is how teams will work. It’s up to you how the points will be tallied since it is your league.

For instance, if it is a football fantasy league then you can decide that a quarterback gets 1 point for every 10 yards thrown or run and 6 points for a touchdown pass. There could be the same amount of points for a touchdown that they run in, or more or less. Defensive players will also get points for an interception, tackle, and blocked punt.

Figure out what system works best and go from there.

3 - Make easy-to-follow rules

Every league needs to have rules to be able to function well. Without a commissioner enforcing the rules, the league will be chaotic and not much fun. Think about some of the rules that will maintain order and fairness and make a list.

The rules can be things like what days a roster needs to be completed. Or, what the guidelines are for making trades. Keep them simple, and make sure to have penalties for infractions.
