5 Simple Decorating Rules To Rearrange Your Furniture

The goal of furniture arrangement is to furnish an empty room practically and look aesthetically pleasing to anyone who enters the room. Over the years, expert interior designers have developed some simple and effective interior decor rules that anyone can easily apply to furnish their home.

Furniture arrangement plays a crucial role in deciding the style of a room. It may not sound like a daunting task at first, but arranging the furniture has its challenges. Nevertheless, arranging the furniture can give all the designer sofas the prestigious place they deserve in the room.

There’s nothing to worry about; you can do that too. Follow these rules and transform your home into a beautiful masterpiece.

1. Don’t Put Furniture Against The Wall

The room size determines how far you can put your furniture away from the walls. The furniture deserves its breathing space, even in a small room. There should always be some space between the furniture and the wall. It may sound false but not placing the furniture close to the walls can make your room feel bigger.

2. Find the Center of Focus

Everyone wants their home to look good to themselves and the guests, and the focal points can help you with that. The focal points are the prime feature of your room. Some might already be in place, such as a fireplace, and some can be created, such as media units. That’s why it’s essential to pay special attention to the focal point of your room because it decides your overall furniture arrangement.

3. Create Areas for Conversations

Conversation areas help to have a discussion with your guests, be it professional or friendly. The chairs or your favourite designer sofas should face each other to have a comfortable conversation. Big rooms can have multiple conversation areas.

4. Understand the Movement Flow

Your furniture arrangement should not block the natural movement of people in the room. There should be no obstacles that can cause people to trip over and fall. You don’t want someone to hurt their knees, ankles or, more importantly, their pinky toes. Arrange the furniture items a couple of feet apart so that anyone can freely navigate in your home.  Don’t forget to keep your pathways clear of any oversized furniture item.

5. Get the Right Lights

Lights are the most critical element in any room, and sadly they are the most neglected ones too. Experiment with a mixture of overhead lights, table lamps, and floor lamps. Table lamps look adorable on the side tables and shelves. Maintain different levels of brightness placement to have adequately balanced lighting in your room. Every light should have its purpose-some are for reading, and some are for improving the room’s ambience. Experiment with the lights and see what suits you. Designer corner lights or a simple hanging light might spruce up the ambience.

It’s always best to plan before arranging your furniture. Make a rough plan or just sketch out the floor plan for your reference. You can also give a thought to the colour codes to make the place look more attractive. Just make sure you don’t forget these golden rules while arranging your furniture.
