Need a New Watch? Here are Some Popular Brands to Check Out

Wearing a watch is timeless and one of the most fashionable things you can do with your wardrobe. From the most famous classical Swiss movements to the latest smartwatches from the world's biggest tech companies, there is so much choice. Whatever you want, there is something that exists for you. This post will break them down into three varieties: Classic, Medium-range, and Smart to better present the vast array of watches on the market.

Classic/ Luxury

What comes to mind when you mention brands such as Rolex or Tag? You are likely thinking of some of the most sought-after luxury timepieces available. This is for a good reason. These classical brands have made a name for themselves from their style, reliability, and the general air of opulence that surrounds them.

Tag Heuer

Founded in 1860, Edouard Heuer created Tag Heuer, a Swiss watchmaker who saw a need in the market for a quality watch. The name stands for: Techniques d'Avant Garde," along with the surname of its eponymous founder. But, while Tag Heuer watches are known for their high quality and reliability, the brand has a rich history in the space arena. Tag Heuer was the first Swiss watch brand to go into space worn by John Glenn in 1962. Tag Heuer has always been a trendsetter when it comes to watchmaking, and because it has been so successful for over 100 years, the brand has grown to become one of the most recognizable watchmakers in the world.

Rolex

Rolex has perhaps the most unfortunate accolade of being one of the most forged watches in history. Nevertheless, this goes to show its immense popularity worldwide. Timepieces manufactured by Rolex have long been considered collectibles, with its Submariner brand instantly recognizable along with its signature crown atop all its watches.

Patek Philippe

As one of the brands on the pricier end of the spectrum, Patek Philippe designs and creates watches of exquisite complexity and style. In addition to their style majesty, they are renowned for their talent for adding a je ne sais quoi to the outfits of the rich and famous. Watches created by Patek Philippe draw on decades of experience and horological knowledge to create some of the most stunning timepieces. Patek Philippe watches are known for their quality craftsmanship, which results from master artisans dedicating their lives to the art.

Omega

Omega is a wholly-owned subsidiary of another famous brand, Swatch. Nonetheless, it has its own identity and was also featured heavily as James Bond's personal time pieces. Among the many incredible places where Omega watches have been are the North Pole, the International Space Station, and deep under the sea in submarines. The result of this is that Omega has become one of the world's most successful watch brands.

Chopard

Chopard exemplifies quality in simplicity. Famed for its uniquely basic style, Chopard focuses on perfecting a small group of items rather than trying to be flashy and including many underwhelming design features. The Chopard Happy Diamonds Collection, launched in 1976, is one of the company's most recognized and highly coveted collections.

Medium-Range

There is an enormous market for people who want to look great, use their watch as a fashion statement, but don't want to remortgage their homes to buy it. These include both Swiss movements as well as Japanese movements, also known as quartz movements.

Tissot

Tissot is a Swiss watchmaker, which has been in business since 1853. Their reputation has been built on producing accurate timepieces with some of the world's most beautiful, delicate designs. They are precision timepieces, known for their high quality and reliability, with numerous awards and accolades to back this claim. Tissot watches are famous for their watches and their brand of fine jewelry and casual, everyday jewelry.

Casio

Casio might be the most famous wristwatch brand in the world. There are not many people who have never heard of this iconic Japanese brand. First created in the 11940s, Casio only began to make waves in the watch industry several decades later, after the war had ended. This brand was one of the first to introduce the quartz movement to the world. Since then, they have gone on to present their famous G-Shock brands, the instantly recognizable F-91W, and of course, their legendary calculator watch, used for decades by scientists and mathematicians the world over!

Seiko

Along with Casio, Seiko was one of the pioneers of the quartz movement wristwatches. They have less of a spread of designs than Casio does, and they tend to focus more on the luxury side of things.

Smart

In recent years, smartwatches have taken the world by storm, mainly due to the actions of one company, Apple. While this has sent some conventional brands scrambling to produce their own smartwatches, traditional timepieces are still more popular. These watches typically contain a raft of features, from fitness trackers to heart monitors. They also allow you to connect with your smartphone.

Apple Watch

With several iterations under its belt, it is safe to say that Apple Watch is an enormous success. Although there were smartwatches before, Apple revolutionized them and had the market appeal to bring smartwatches into the zeitgeist. Even though they haven't changed much in the way they look, they have managed to force themselves on the high-fashion scene. While Apple might never fully dethrone the famous brands at the beginning of this post, it has carved itself out a significant niche and is here to stay.

Samsung

As with their rivalry in the smartphone department, they continue to fight in the watch arena. However, Samsung has never been able to meet the mass-market appeal of the Apple Watch, in part due to its reliance on third-party software to function (it has ceased using its own Tizen software). Nevertheless, it is a viable alternative for those who want a smartwatch but are not synced to the Apple ecosystem.

Watches come in various prices, styles, and movements, but what connects them all is a mysterious love that humans have for telling the time. It is up to you which option you desire most, whether mechanical movements, quartz, or even silicon. Nonetheless, whatever you might want, there is something for everyone.
