New Ways to Get Around on Foot

Humans have always had a soft spot for ground transportation. We've made scooters, bicycles, roller skates, and even motorized options like motorbikes and cars.

The trend in finding new, exciting ways to get around hasn't ever really shown signs of coming to a halt ever since we first invented the wheel and cart, with modern advancements leading to some pretty nifty things to plant your feet on while you zip around.

The Segway was a major point of interest when it first came out, but now that we're used to that sort of thing, a few other meaningful developments haven't gotten the limelight they deserve.

This article is meant to rectify that. Here are some awesome ground-based transport options that have recently taken off:

Hoverboards

The name is a bit of a misnomer, seeing as how they don’t actually hover, but it's still a very cool way to get around nonetheless. These machines are simply two wheels connected to an electronic platform able to power the movement of the hoverboard through an electric charge.

They are controlled by shifting your weight either forward or backward to move, while turning is accomplished by moving one half of your body more than the other.

At first, they were mainly children's entertainment toys, but now, there are tons of full-fledged options, with some even coming with all-terrain tires and the ability to go over 20 miles on a single charge.

E-Scooters

Electric scooters are a huge upgrade from the regular one. These aren't the same scooters you see at the local skate park's halfpipe.

These are fully electric scooters capable of going 30 mph or more, further blurring the lines between what should be allowed on the road and what shouldn't. In many urban centers, electric scooters are taking off huge, with electric scooter Singapore options being extremely pronounced.

That's because these are relatively lightweight (under 100 lbs), powered by electricity, and come at a fraction of the price of a car or even a moped.

E-Bikes

The electric bike isn't necessarily new, although advancements in battery technology have taken them out of the niche market they once occupied and into a more preferred mode of transportation.

These function much like electric scooters, except that they still retain all of the normal features of a bicycle. There's just an electric motor attached to help you put along for longer distances.

When the motor is engaged, there's no need to pedal whatsoever, making it excellent for someone who wants something like an electric scooter, but with more comfort and range.

Conclusion

With all of the talk about how gas vehicles aren't sustainable in the long term environmentally, there has been a huge push in recent years for any alternative form of ground-based transport.

These options are allowing more people from more diverse backgrounds to get themselves around worry-free, and even have some fun while they're doing it.

There's nothing quite as exhilarating as using an electric scooter that goes much faster and much farther than what you were used to as a child.
