DIY Moisturiser Recipe

There are many naturally hydrating ingredients that you can use to customise a skin moisturiser. Our dadis and nanis swore by these DIY moisturisers that kept them soft and protected. The best part is that they are free from chemicals and budget-friendly. Check out the recipes:

1. Shea Butter + Argan Oil Body Moisturiser

Ingredients

  • ½ cup of shea butter

  • 1 tsp avocado oil

  • 5 drops geranium oil

  • 5 drops rosehip seed oil

Melt shea butter indirectly in a double boiler and pour it in a jar. Add the rest of the ingredients to the jar and give it a whisk. It is ready for use. You can use this thick moisturiser on your entire body. Shea butter is commonly used and many dry-skin moisturisers are easily available on the market.

2. Beeswax + Olive Oil Hand & Foot Cream

Ingredients

  • ¼ a cup pellet of beeswax

  • ½ a cup virgin coconut oil

  • 1 tsp of glycerin

  • 10 drops any essential oil like (clary sage, vanilla, frankincense, sandalwood, or geranium oil)

Boil the hard beeswax pellets in a double boiler. Once liquid, remove it from heat and add all the ingredients. Whisk until you get a creamy paste. Store it in an air-tight container. Beeswax is traditionally used to make deeply-hydrating creams, perfect for healing dry palms and cracked foot soles.

3. Aloe Vera + Glycerin Face Gel

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp of glycerin

  • ½ cup of store-bought aloe vera gel

  • ¼ cup of coconut oil

  • 2 capsules of vitamin E

  • 10 drops any essential oil like (clary sage, vanilla, frankincense, sandalwood, or geranium oil)

Properly whisk all the ingredients together to get a well-mixed paste. Store it in a container. You can also refrigerate it. This light face gel is perfect for use on the face. The ingredients used in this recipe strengthen the skin-barrier. Research aloe vera gel and vitamin E capsule prices to stock them up for frequent use.

Diet Tips to Soften Dry Skin

We’ve covered the topical solution, now it's time to improve your skin’s hydration from within. Here are some diet tips that will help increase the ability of your skin to retain moisture and prevent dryness:

  • Drink an adequate amount of water to hydrate skin.

  • Eat fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, etc., to get the essential nutrients like zinc, vitamin D, selenium, and omega-3 fatty acids that are crucial for enhancing skin hydration.

  • Consume vitamin A or biotin supplements as they contain retinyl acetate which helps strengthen skin barrier and reduces moisture loss.

  • Take foods rich in fatty acids like nuts, seeds, healthy fats, to nourish skin and maintain moisture barrier.

  • Increase vitamin C intake in your diet through citrus fruits to boost collagen production and achieve softer skin.
