New to hair replacement systems? Not sure about how they look and feel on your head? How long does a hair system last? How long can I wear a hair system before it is due for maintenance? Can I use wig glue on all my hair systems? All sound familiar, right? I'm glad you asked.
These puzzling questions have perhaps set millions of hair loss sufferers away from trying on the first hair system. They fear the loss of money, fear the change, etc. No worries. We are absolutely in your shoes.
Secondly, we want to assure you that wearing hair systems is a smart move. With the right budget and maintenance routine applied, a life of hair system wearing is absolutely manageable. The rest? Enjoy your transformation and the potential opportunities that may come your way.
However, before putting on your first hair system, it's worthwhile keeping in mind that a hair system and care go hand-in-hand. And a great caring routine starts from its very first attachment. For that matter, we are going to talk about glue.
Wig glue is the most commonly used attachment method for permanent hairpieces and wig wearers seeking a solid and lasting hold. Glue isn't recommendable for day wig wearers. However, remember that never wear a permanent hair system or wig for any longer than six weeks before each removal.
Why? After a long period of uninterrupted hair system use, the adhesive, though harmless, will turn into a gooey substance that will seep through the base of the hair system and stick to the hair. You will never want this to happen. The gooey, sticky substance, when dried up, will get the hair stuck together, making your life twice as hard cleaning up the mess.
How Long Can I Leave My Hair System with Glue on Scalp?
When we give you solutions, we want to make sure they actually work, and not just hear-and-say. We want to make sure that whatever solutions we offer are those that have been witnessed by us, or that we have experimented with them ourselves.
The material of your skin hairpiece base is made out of, the same adhesive used to keep your hair system on your scalp. Your skin type, lifestyle, and the climate and temperature of where you live, all contribute to the periods of how long you should have the glue stay on your scalp.
As a rule of thumb, we recommend you wear a wig or hairpiece for two or three weeks if bonded with glue, before each removal for maintenance. The idea behind it is that your scalp needs to breathe, and a thorough wash of the hair system before reattachment will keep it in optimum condition so it may last longer.
We recommend that you keep two hair systems. Wash one, store it, give it a rest, and use the other one. This will also extend the lifespan of each.
Hair systems differ in many different ways mainly because their bases are constructed differently and with different base materials. The most typical ones are lace, mono, polyurethane, or a combination of any of these.
Lace Hair Systems for Men
Lace hair systems for men have the most delicate base. Lace hair systems are known as the guarantor of the most realistic-looking hairline and the best breathability. However, lace is thin and tears easily, if your client is a bit of a heavy user and not ready for a full commitment, don't introduce lace.
You cannot apply liquid adhesive directly to the lace base. In fact, liquid adhesive is not ideal for lace wearers simply because liquid seeps through the holes and gets hair stuck. However, some stylists have managed to use liquid adhesives. After applying the adhesive, wait for it to dry and turn tacky. Then gently position it and secure it in place.
At Newtimes Hair, we don't recommend leaving lace hair systems bonded for over a week. If tape has been used for bonding the lace hair system, it could last longer. But with liquid adhesive, after one week, the adhesive will start to seep through the lace, sticking to the hair.
Fine Mono Hairpieces
Mono hair systems are the most durable type of hair systems on the planet. The liquid adhesive cannot easily seep through the mono base. Thus, monofilament hair systems can be worn for longer. Monofilament hair systems can stay secured on the scalp for over six weeks before each removal.
However, we still recommend the 2-3 week routine due to hygienic reasons. A thorough cleaning will get rid of bacteria and scalp oil. Also, mono hair systems usually have a poly perimeter. Keeping the maintenance at 2-3 weeks will also allow the poly perimeter to last longer.
High-Quality Adhesives Are the Key
To keep your hair system longer on the scalp, a high-quality adhesive is a must. Wearers into more active lifestyles those who live in hot or humid climates, or those who are heavy sweaters, Pro Hair Lab's Ghost Bond Supreme is a great choice. This adhesive is free from latex and many other harmful ingredients, ideally for users with sensitive skin. Plus, it is adaptable for French lace hair systems and polyurethane hair systems.
For a hold that lasts up to four weeks, consider using Walker Ultra Hold. This waterproof adhesive is a permanent one for hairpiece perimeters and full-head bonding and is also reliable for attaching lace front hair systems.
