8 Common Men's Grooming Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

You’ve got a date in a few hours. You took a shower right before and picked out the perfect outfit. Your teeth are brushed, your beard is trimmed, but did you clip your fingernails and clean under them?

Did you apply deodorant and put on a small amount of aftershave? If not, it might be time for you to revisit the bathroom. You see, regular grooming is just as important as a good outfit.

If you don’t have both, you might as well be wearing a brown paper bag. There are many men’s grooming mistakes that people make every day. We’re here to highlight them so you can avoid them.

1. You Don't Brush Your Teeth Enough

We all know the importance of brushing our teeth twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night. It's not enough.

If you want to keep your breath smelling fresh throughout the day, you'll need to pick up a toothbrush in between meals. Brushing after you've had wine or coffee will stop your pearly whites from staining.

If you have a meal with onions, it will be hard to kill the stench unless you brush right away. We understand it's hard to carry a toothbrush everywhere with you, but you should at least try to keep this tip in mind.

2. Being Too Much of a Minimalist

You're not any less of a man for keeping skin hydrated. Your body needs moisturizer. Besides, lotion does a lot more than keep your skin soft.

It can also protect you from harsh UV rays. You can wear a $2000 suit, but if your nails are untrimmed, it's not doing much for you. Men get pedicures and manicures.

When you're trimming your beard, don't forget about the hair on your neck. It looks a little unflattering if you don't.

3. Gross Nails

A long time ago, men went into salons every week to have their nails cleaned up. Many men have stopped doing this, but that doesn't mean you have to.

Clean nails are an essential part of any men's grooming routine. Keep a brush in your shower and go over them each time you hop in the tub. Don't forget to trim them while you're at it.

4. Using Way Too Much Shampoo

Two things. You don't have to wash your hair every time you take a shower and, you don't have to use that much shampoo. If you do, you're stripping your hair of essential oils that it needs.

Not to mention, you're exposing your scalp to all sorts of gross chemicals. Stick to washing your hair every other time you shower. When you do use shampoo, you only need a dime-sized amount.

If it doesn't lather up, that's fine. We promise that it's still working. Bubbles don't equal clean.

5. Your Deodorant is Overpowering

Putting on deodorant isn't the same as taking a shower. We'll say that again. Putting on deodorant isn't the same as taking a shower!

Don't layer it on thick to try and cover up your smell. No deodorant should be that strong in the first place.

When you're wandering down the hygiene aisle at the store, take a whiff of all the antiperspirants. If it takes your breath away, chances are it will take your partner's breath away too.

Try to grab something that's a little on the subtle side. It should accentuate your cologne and other scents you have going on. Not overpower them.

You could also grab chafing powder instead of deodorant. It will absorb moisture, keep the stench away, and stop your thighs from rubbing together as you go about your day. Talk about multipurpose!

6. Attempting to Dye Your Grays

Let yourself age gracefully. Don't try to go to the store and grab a box of dye to cover up your grays. Let them shine through.

The salt and pepper look is actually pretty sophisticated. Many people find it attractive, and it looks good with many different hairstyles.

7. Too Much Aftershave

You don't want to take someone's breath away at the grocery store with your aftershave. Trust us when we say when it comes to men's grooming products, you don't need that much.

Put a little aftershave on your chest and behind your ears. That's it. That's all you need to smell great for the entire day.

8. Applying Products to a Wet Head

You should always let your hair dry before you attempt to style it. Most products don't work on a wet head. It needs to be dry or at most, damp.

You might be able to get by with it if you're going with a wet look, but the general rule of thumb is to avoid it.

If your hair is short, a light towel dry will be all that it takes. You may have to break out the hairdryer if you have long luscious locks.

If so happens, you attempt to style your hair while it's still wet and, it's not working well for you, it's not too late. You can dry it a little with your hairdryer and try again.

Men's Grooming Mistakes That You Should Avoid

You can wear expensive clothes and rock a 200-dollar haircut, but it doesn't matter if you make tons of men's grooming mistakes. Keep your nails clean and, it's okay to moisturize. You'll have a lot more luck in the dating world if you do.
