Staying active doesn’t have to include a gym membership. There are lots of ways to remain active and get your exercise in without having to make trips to the gym. Especially nowadays with the coronavirus changing the way we live, many people don’t feel comfortable going to the gym now. But that doesn’t mean we can’t still stay active! Here are 7 ways you can still stay active, outside of the gym.
Do Active Activities
The best workouts are the ones that don’t feel like workouts. These activities get your blood pumping without the need for treadmills or weights.
Go on a Hike
Getting out in the fresh air on a hike is a great way to work your muscles and explore nature. Many hike trails include a variety of terrains and inclines, which will give your leg muscles a good workout. It’s also great for your cardiovascular health to go outdoors!
Go to an Adventure Park
Adventure parks that feature activities such as rope courses, zip lining and climbing are awesome ways to stay active. They provide a great cardio workout, as you’ll be using multiple muscle groups to navigate your way through the trees. Plus, you’ll have so much fun while doing it.
Play Team Sports
Sports like baseball, basketball or football are fantastic ways to stay active. Regular training sessions work out your muscles and build stamina, and you get to improve your skills in your chosen sport too. And if you’re not competitive, then no worries. You can play things like frisbee in the park and still burn a lot of calories.
Get Outdoors
You can keep your body healthy without going to the gym by simply spending more time outdoors too.
Walking
Walking is a highly underrated activity that keeps you active and healthy. Whether it’s power walking on the weekend, taking the dog out or walking to the store rather than hopping on the bus, walking everyday is a great habit to get into.
Running
Running is a really accessible activity that is wonderful for your health without the hefty price tag that many gym memberships come with. Anyone can start running, and it builds strength, stamina and balance.
Do a Home Workout
If you like working out but can’t (or don’t want to) go to the gym, there are ways you can workout from the comfort of your home with ease.
HIIT and Cardio
High intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts can be done from anywhere, with no equipment needed. They include a series of rounds of movements that you repeat in circuits with short breaks in between each one. And there are so many other home workouts you can do, even things like step classes, which you can do on your stairs at home! You can find many workouts on YouTube, or even purchase home workout DVDs.
Yoga
Yoga is the ancient Indian practice of concentration and mind-body connection that anyone can do. It’s great for both your mental and physical health, helping you to create balance in your body and build on flexibility and strength.
