Celebrities with Alopecia

Alopecia is defined as hair loss from the scalp and it afflicts many famous people. Most of the time when we think of hair loss in celebrities, we think of well-known men like Bruce Willis or Jude Law.

After all, hair loss is often more obvious in men who usually start to lose hair from the front at the hairline and at the temples.

The reality though is that there are female celebrities who have also had problems with alopecia. Some famous women have had problems with hair loss, sometimes due to stress or physical trauma to the hair.

Actress Kiera Knightley is one such woman who said she used to dye her hair often, which could be why she started experiencing problems with hair loss.

Model Naomi Campbell also started to suffer from hair loss problems which she attributes to the different types of styles that her hair was placed into during her modelling career.

Naomi is not the only famous model to experience some hair loss. In fact, Tyra Banks also started to have trouble with alopecia. She started to lose patches of her hair, which she believes was due to the extreme pressure and stress that she was under at the time.

Television personality Rosie O’Donnell has also talked about her issues with hair loss, stating that she first started noticing bald spots developing after the age of 40. In fact, hair loss is more common in women when they get older.

Actresses who have alopecia

There are some other celebrity women who have had the problem of alopecia. In fact, Viola Davis and Selma Blair are two actresses who have admitted to having experienced hair loss.

By the time she was 28 years old, Viola Davis had lost about 50% of her hair and was diagnosed with the condition alopecia areata.  For an aspiring actress, this was a very distressing diagnosis for Viola, but she has managed to still land many roles and is known to be an excellent actress.

Neve Campbell was also diagnosed with alopecia areata and started losing hair in her 20s. She believed the hair loss was mainly a result of the stress she was under in her career as an actress.  She also had other life stresses such as going through a divorce and having to deal with stalkers.

Selma Blair started to lose her hair after giving birth to her son. Such post-partum hair loss is not uncommon in women and is thought to be largely the result of large fluctuations in hormones that accompany childbirth.

Actress Kristin Davis also noticed that her hair volume was dropping, which for an actress, was quite a concern.

What is the solution for female celebrities with alopecia?

Some women are happy to wear wigs to cover up their hair loss or bald spots, but for others hair transplant surgery may be a good choice. You can read more about options for hair transplant surgery, such as the FUE method, at the Vera Clinic in Istanbul, Turkey.
